The Sea King is a carbon copy of CL Wilson’s Tairen Soul series. Similarities abound:
-Mary Sue heroine with immense but uncontrollable power
-Foreign nation in which men’s main job is to protect their *precious* ladies
-Hero wants heroine to claim him as her soul mate
-Ominous evil magic users trying to kidnap heroine and use her for her power
And the list goes on. My best guess is that the author was unsure where to take this series and so she fell back into familiar territory.

So I'm still angry over this book. I tried to calm down before writing this but it seems whenever I try to collect my thoughts over it and write a coherent review I get pissed off all over again. I'm going to try to put the things I didn't like in a list and you can decide if you want to read it or not. Many of us have limits/pet peeves and hard lines we don't like reading so I'll try to cover the basics.

When I read the Winter King I spent a long time just loving the fact it was a romance with a high fantasy setting. It was the first Romantasy book I ever found so it is really special to me and I spent years waiting for the sequel to come out. I wish I could say it exceeded my expectations but it fell a little short of its predecessor still I have very high hopes for the overall series.

I absolutely adored the majority of this book, the writing hands down was fantastic, very detailed and vivid. The authors imagination is literally out of this world. But It wasn’t as GREAT as The Winter King, truth be told Gabriella grated on my nerves a bit. However, Dilys was undoubtedly delicious!!

So, I'll be honest, I didn't finish this book. I'm so disappointed because I LOVED the Winter King, the first book in this series. I loved Kham and Wynter and their story and how hard they had to fight to get their happy ending. The Winter King was such a great fantasy read and I have read it twice, and that's saying something because The Winter King is a long book.

Is it terrible that I loved everything about this book, even Summer when she was being annoying at first, but I can't fully let myself be happy with it simply because I'm worried it'll be another 3 years between books? I loved the first one and this one was a roller-coaster of adventure from start to finish that I absolutely loved but I feel like I have to hold back from fully investing myself in this series simply because I have no idea how long till the next book is out, could be a few months...more

I have been a fan of C.L. Wilson ever since I read her Lord of the Fading Lands series (one of my favourite fantasy romance series of all time). Her books are released so few and far between that reading a new book by her is a rare treat indeed!

I loved the first book in the series, but sadly this one was a disappointment.
Writing style was different/off for me and the narrative of other world/fantasy was confusing. Plus the heroine lost her appeal and became irritating bothersome towards the second half of the book.

Gah that was so freaking good! I hope we don't have to wait another 3 years for the next book or I will go crazy! Wynter & Storm are still my favorite characters but I loved getting to know the Seasons better and I did love Summer and Dilys! And thank goodness for that second epilogue!!! I hope the next book is Springs!

I had The Sea King on pre-order over a month in advance. Before that, I waited almost a year for it to be released...only to face crushing disappointment.
First of all, C.L. Wilson has a tendency to drag out an issue so that it goes on for half the book instead of resolving it in a chapter or two. I got really tired of watching Summer vacillate between wanting Dilys and resisting him because of reasons that were no real obstacle to their relationship. I'll start by saying that I have read other books by C.L. Wilson and loved them. The first chapter of this book is somewhat confusing with all the names and keeping track of who's who, that many new readers may not want to read any further. It does get better after that. The author did a wonderful job fleshing out the hero Dilys, and you can picture him vividly as one hunk of a male. The Seasons are a lovely group of three sisters who many suitors hope to covet but have not succeeded. While I en...more

I really enjoyed this book, but I'll confess I'm disappointed I wasn't able to give it 5 stars. I had to dock a star for two key reasons:
1. I felt like Gabriella spent too much of the book rejecting Dilys. It was frustrating because it wasn't that she didn't like him, it was that she was afraid of loving someone out of fear of losing them later. And while I get that, I think it just became really frustrating that SO MUCH of the book was spent with this part of the story on repeat, and it made ma...more
